alabaster ministries - PROJECTS IN PROGRESS - reaching out to fatherless and widows

Kosovo: Pure water for needy families
One family in Kosovo has captured our hearts. In the 1999 war, four adult brothers were killed within several day’s time leaving their wives and many young children behind. One of the wives soon after died in childbirth. A single sister has taken on the task of raising her orphaned nieces and nephews. Her new family lives next door to another sister-in-law and her large family in the Kosovo countryside. They have experienced severe health problems due to their poor water supply. Alabaster Ministries is raising funds to install indoor plumbing with a water purification system. The cost for this, by western standards, is minimal. Only $3500 will supply these two households with the indoor plumbing and safe water that we take for granted. Would you be a part of this project?

Kathy and I are looking for a time later in the year to return to Kosovo to see this completed projected and possibly conduct a worship seminar for the local churches.

India:
Worship School construction
Lucknow, India, a predominately Hindustani area, has a thriving church that has given itself to care for street children and to raise up worshipers. In my several visits to this church, I have been excited for the vision the pastor has to bring in the orphaned children that are so much a part of India’s social structure. Not only are these children loved and nurtured and given a home, but they are trained in God’s ways. They grow up to be the pastors and worship leaders of churches that are planted in the area. Alabaster Ministries is partnering with the church to build a worship school. The total cost for facility construction has been placed at $100,000. Students in this school include children that have been rescued from an uncertain life on the streets of this large city.

OUR RECENT ALABASTER MINISTRY PROJECTS
Alabaster Ministries in Kosovo (view video on Alabaster home page)

The area around Djakova, Kosovo, was among the hardest hit in the 1999 war. Following the war, various Christian ministries rushed in, and as a result of their loving care, upwards of 300 Djakova widows converted to Christianity from Islam! In June, we visited a small group of these women, singing and praying for them and encouraging them in their faith. While there, another widow we visited became a Christian. The light and life on her face afterward was remarkable!

A tRACTOR tO pLANT wIDOW 'S fIELDS
After being with these widows and their children, we wanted to do more. We found out that many of them owned family farms, but had been unable to plant crops because of land mines and destroyed farm equipment. An older son of one widow said the de-mining of their area is nearly complete, but they needed a tractor to plow the fields.
He said if he had a tractor, he would not only be able to take care of his family's fields, but would look after three or four other widows as well! In a series of worship concerts we were able to raise the funds to purchase this tractor. Over the winter, roads are virtually impassible. With the tractor, he and his brothers were able to go to the woods to cut firewood and gather chestnuts to take to the market. This provided a substantial income for these families!

A CAR FOR AN ELDERLY WIDOW
In July, we had the wonderful joy of blessing an elderly widow with a car! Doris is on a very limited income and her previous car had "given up the ghost". She was dependent on friends to get around. Was she ever surprised when this beautiful gold car came driving up with "God Bless You Doris!" bannered across it! She said she thought she'd never drive again. God, as always and forever, is faithful to look after the needs of the widow.
